About the Html Beautifier Tool
Restore readability to messy web code with the ToolFlic HTML Beautifier. Whether you are dealing with minified code or a poorly formatted export from a CMS, our tool re-indents your tags, cleans up nesting, and organizes your attributes to create a professional, readable document that any developer would be proud to work on.
Core Advantages
Save time when auditing or editing unfamiliar codebases. Proper indentation makes it easy to visualize the DOM structure and identify unclosed tags or structural errors. Our tool is an essential utility for front-end developers, designers, and SEO specialists who need to dig into the source code of their pages.
Architecture & Security
Built on a high-fidelity HTML5 parser, our beautifier identifies the semantic role of every tag. It applies a set of customizable indentation rules to ensure that nested elements are clearly aligned, creating a clean and professional-grade visual hierarchy for your code.
Under the Hood: the Html Beautifier explained properly
No marketing filler — just the mechanics, the trade-offs and the real limits, explained clearly.
How it actually works
Indentation is produced by js-beautify 1.14.0, the same library that formats HTML inside several editors, so tag nesting, inline elements and attribute wrapping follow a real HTML-aware algorithm rather than a regex pass. Choose 2, 4 or 8 spaces, optionally strip comments on the way in, and switch to minify when you want the compact form instead.
Content that is whitespace-sensitive is lifted out before anything is collapsed and put back afterwards: pre and textarea blocks, and the inside of script and style elements. Without that step a formatted page changes what the reader sees, because a folded runs-on-space inside a pre becomes a different document. The result is byte-identical in those regions and tidied everywhere else.
What that means for your results
Formatting HTML is a display change, not a semantic one: the element tree, attribute values and text content stay as they were, so a beautified template can go back into source without an audit. Block-level boundaries keep a break between them while inline runs are allowed to flow, which is what makes the output readable rather than merely longer.
Because the sensitive regions are preserved rather than reformatted, code samples inside a pre and the CSS in a style block survive intact - a common casualty in naive formatters.
Where it falls short — honestly
The library parses markup the way a beautifier needs to, not as a validating HTML parser: an unclosed tag or a stray end tag is re-emitted rather than reported, so beautified output inherits whatever structural problem the input had. Conditional comments, document type declarations and CDATA inside scripts pass through but are not understood.
Whitespace between inline elements is significant in real rendering, so re-flowing a page can shift a gap by a space. Check buttons and inline list items after formatting, and never let a formatter touch a template whose engine reads newlines as literal output.
A real end-to-end workflow
Paste the minified HTML someone shipped you and beautify it to find an unclosed div, an inlined style or the script that is breaking layout; then work out the fix and minify again with HTML Minifier before deploying.
Use HTML Escape/Unescape when the content must be data rather than markup, and JS Beautifier or CSS Beautifier for the blocks this tool deliberately leaves alone.
