Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Xml To Json.

Yes, attributes are converted to JSON object properties.
Yes, the parser handles XML files up to several megabytes.
Namespace prefixes are included as part of the JSON keys.
Yes, all processing happens in your browser — no data is sent to any server.
Attributes become properties with a leading marker so they never collide with element text — check the output pattern once and it stays consistent.
Yes — feeds of several megabytes convert in-browser in seconds; nothing is uploaded, so size limits follow your device memory.
XML cannot mark a lone repeating element as a list — duplicate tags become arrays, a single tag becomes an object; handle both shapes in your code.

About the Xml To Json Tool

Modernize your data pipeline with the ToolFlic XML to JSON converter. While XML is still widely used in many legacy systems, JSON has become the standard for modern web APIs. Our tool provides a high-fidelity bridge between these two formats, transforming complex tagged structures into clean, lightweight JSON objects without losing any data relationships.

Core Advantages

Easily integrate legacy XML data into modern JavaScript frameworks like React or Vue. By converting to JSON, you can reduce payload sizes and simplify your data access logic. Our converter handles attributes, nested nodes, and arrays with expert precision, making it a favorite among full-stack developers.

Architecture & Security

Our transformation engine uses a "lossless conversion" algorithm that identifies XML attributes and text nodes, mapping them to object properties and values. It intelligently handles singular vs. duplicate tags to determine array structures, ensuring the output is intuitive and easy to use.

Under the Hood: the Xml To Json explained properly

No marketing filler — just the mechanics, the trade-offs and the real limits, explained clearly.

How it actually works

The document is parsed with DOMParser and walked recursively. Attributes land in an @attributes object when the option is on, repeated sibling elements become arrays under the same key, and an element whose only content is text collapses to a plain string, which keeps the output close to what a hand-written JSON equivalent would look like.

Mixed content is preserved: text and child markup inside one element are both kept, the text under a #text key, so a paragraph containing a link does not lose either half. That was not always true here - the earlier version decided on the first text node it saw and dropped everything after it. CDATA is read as text, and a malformed document is rejected with the reason rather than converted into partial nonsense.

What that means for your results

Fidelity is high but the mapping is deliberately mechanical: no type inference, no guessing that a node called price is a number. Every value arrives as a string or a structure, so downstream code compares against what the XML actually contained rather than against a plausible-looking coercion.

The array rule is consistent: a single occurrence produces an object, several produce an array. Consumers should normalise both shapes, which is the standard hazard when reading feeds.

Where it falls short — honestly

XML concepts with no JSON equivalent are flattened. Namespaces appear as literal prefixed names, processing instructions and DOCTYPE declarations are not carried into the output, attribute order is not significant, and an element with both text and attributes produces a nested shape rather than a bare value.

Auto-copy is switched on by default, so converting a document also writes JSON to your clipboard; turn it off if you are working near sensitive data.

A real end-to-end workflow

The usual job is making a feed or a legacy API response queryable: paste the XML, convert, then hand the JSON to JSON Formatter or to a console for inspection. Turning the attribute option off when you only care about content produces a much flatter, easier-to-read tree.

Round-tripping back to markup is possible with JSON to XML, though the result will not be byte-identical because attributes and element order are represented differently in the two formats.
