How to Use Keyword Density

Follow these simple steps to get the best results.

1

Paste your content

Drop an article, blog post or page into the box - the analysis runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.

2

Choose what to measure

Leave the keyword field empty for a top-ten word table, or enter one term (Single mode) or a comma list (Multiple mode), then set minimum word length, stop-word filtering and case sensitivity.

3

Read frequency and density

See the count of each term and its density as a share of total words, sort by keyword, frequency or density, and export the table as CSV.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Keyword Density.

Aim for 1-2% for your primary keyword to avoid over-optimization penalties.
No - it counts single words only. There is no two-word or three-word phrase table.
Yes, the tool handles articles up to 10,000 words without issues.
No, analysis happens entirely in your browser — your content is never uploaded.
Roughly one to two percent for your main term is healthy; far higher reads as stuffing and risks both rankings and reader trust.
No - the table is single words only, so a phrase like best running shoes is not tracked as one unit. Phrase analysis still needs a manual check.
Yes — long-form text up to article length is analyzed instantly, entirely in your browser, so drafts stay private.

About the Keyword Density Tool

Check how heavily a term is repeated before you publish. The ToolFlic Keyword Density Checker tokenises the text you paste into lower-cased words, counts how often each one appears, and expresses that count as a percentage of the total filtered words. Leave the keyword field empty for a top-ten word table, or track your own terms in Single or Multiple mode. Filter common stop words, set a minimum word length, toggle case sensitivity, sort the table by word, count or density, and export the result as CSV. It works on single words only; there is no two-word or three-word phrase analysis, so a target phrase still has to be checked by hand.

Core Advantages

Catch accidental keyword stuffing, see which words dominate a draft, and judge variety at a glance with the density bars. Because the analysis runs entirely in your browser, unpublished or sensitive text is never uploaded, and the same input always produces the same figures.

Architecture & Security

Text is split into words with punctuation removed, mapped to frequencies in a JavaScript object, and divided by the filtered word count to give a density percentage to two decimals. A stop-word list and a minimum-length rule decide which words enter the table, and the total, unique, character and sentence counts come from the same tokenisation. All of it happens in the page; nothing is sent to a server.

Under the Hood: the Keyword Density explained properly

No marketing filler — just the mechanics, the trade-offs and the real limits, explained clearly.

How it actually works

The whole analysis is a tokenising word counter. Text is lower-cased, punctuation is stripped to spaces, and the result is split into words, so the same count that feeds the table also feeds the total, unique and sentence figures in the stats bar. A stop-word list and a minimum-length rule decide which words qualify, and each surviving word is tallied in a frequency map.

Density is each word count divided by the total filtered word count, printed to two decimal places, which is the only ratio the tool reports. Leave the keyword field empty and you get the ten most frequent qualifying words; switch to Single or Multiple mode and it measures exactly the terms you type, whether or not they appear.

The result is a plain sortable table with a proportional bar under each row, and the whole thing can be exported to CSV. Sorting works by word, by frequency or by density, and the direction flips in place.

What that means for your results

Because everything runs on the pasted text inside the page, an article is never transmitted anywhere, and the numbers are simple counts a reader can re-derive and trust. The stop-word filter and minimum length keep the top-word table meaningful instead of filling it with the most common English words.

Tracking your own keyword list rather than only reading the top ten means you can watch a specific term across drafts and catch the moment it starts to look stuffed.

Where it falls short — honestly

This is a single-word analyser: it does not measure two-word or three-word phrases, n-grams or co-occurrence, so the phrase-level view an SEO brief usually asks for must be done by hand. Density is measured against filtered words, so turning the stop-word filter on or off changes the denominator and the percentages are not comparable between the two settings.

Matching treats plurals, stems and synonyms as different words unless you search the stem yourself, and the tool has no opinion on whether a density is good - it reports a number, not a verdict. Punctuation and symbols are discarded, so a hyphenated or accented term is not tracked as one token.

A real end-to-end workflow

Paste a draft with the stop-word filter on and a minimum length of four or five, read the top words for accidental repetition, then switch to Multiple mode and enter your real target terms to watch their individual density before publishing.

For an exact position rather than a count, use Keyword Position Checker; for raw totals and reading time, Word Counter and Character Counter are the lighter tools; and to judge the finished head rather than the body text, Meta Tag Analyzer reads the tags.
