How it actually works

The pad is a single HTML5 canvas. In Draw mode every stroke is stored as a list of pointer points and painted as smoothed quadratic curves, so the line looks like handwriting rather than a jagged path; Undo drops the last stroke and the rest are re-rendered from the stored list. In Type mode the name is drawn with the canvas text API in a chosen cursive font, at your size, with a shear transform for slant. In Upload mode the picture is scaled onto a temporary canvas, the four corner pixels are averaged into a background key color, and every pixel within your tolerance of that key is made transparent while the remaining ink is darkened.

When you export, the tool scans the canvas for the bounding box of non-transparent pixels, crops to it, adds your padding and re-renders that region onto a new canvas at 1x, 2x or 3x scale, then writes a PNG with a transparent background or fills white first for a JPG. A Data URI copy path hands you the same string to paste into other tools.

Nothing is uploaded: drawing, background removal, trimming and encoding all run on your device, so a signature - which is sensitive personal data - never leaves the page.

What that means for your results

Stroke smoothing keeps hand-drawn lines fluid instead of pixel-stepped, and the transparent PNG keeps edges crisp at any size because the crop and scale happen on a fresh redraw rather than a resized screenshot. Export at 2x suits screen use and 3x suits print without blurring the ink.

Where it falls short - honestly

Upload background removal works on a plain, evenly lit light background; busy paper, shadows or colored backgrounds can leave marks, so redraw or type if the cleanup is poor. Typed styles depend on the cursive fonts your device already has, so a machine without them falls back to the system handwriting face. This tool only creates the image of a signature; it is not an electronic-signature service with an audit trail, so for legally binding documents use a proper e-signature platform.

A real end-to-end workflow

Create the signature, export a transparent PNG, then drop it where you need it: add it to a bill with Invoice Generator, combine the signed pages with PDF Merge, or embed the image on a page.
