How it actually works

It is a live microphone dictation tool built on the Web Speech API. window.SpeechRecognition, or its webkit prefix, is configured for continuous listening with final results only, and when you press Start Recording it transcribes whatever your microphone picks up in real time into the text box. There is no file path at all: you cannot upload an MP3, WAV or M4A.

A language selector offers twelve recognition locales, and the transcript can be copied, downloaded as text or reset, with a live count of words, characters and estimated reading time under the box. The recognition itself is performed by the browser speech service rather than fully on-device, which is why most browsers need an internet connection while you dictate.

Because it listens to the microphone, transcribing a recording means playing it out loud near the mic and dictating it in, so quality follows the speaker, the room and your playback rather than any file.

What that means for your results

Nothing is recorded or uploaded to ToolFlic - only live speech goes to your browser speech service, and only the resulting text stays in the box - so it is quick for hands-free notes, and the twelve-language range lets you dictate in several scripts. The interface keeps to what the API can honestly do.

Where it falls short — honestly

It is not an audio-file transcriber despite the name, so there is no upload, no file-size handling and no offline guarantee, and because recognition runs through the browser service, confidential audio should not be dictated through it. Punctuation and paragraph breaks are handled poorly, so a long monologue needs editing, and the session can end on a pause, so dictate in steady phrases and proofread numbers and names immediately.

A real end-to-end workflow

Pick the language, allow microphone access and press Start, then speak in clear phrases and Stop when done, editing the transcript before you copy or download it.
